2. What is the setting of the novel (US state, season and year)?
3. The Logan land was once part of the Granger plantation. How did the Logan family get their land? What crop do they raise?
4. Why must Papa work at another job? Describe the work and where he must go.
5. What does the driver of the school bus do to the black children who must walk to school?
6. Why does Cassie remain silent when the children answer their teacher in unison (p. 20)? What does this imply about Cassie’s character?
